Procurement

Smart Pill Box

There are a few specific steps in the procurement cycle that need to be completed (in addition to the general procurement cycle) for the smart pill box to be ready for distribution to patients.

The procurement cycle steps are:

  • Procure the Smart Pill Box through the Global Drug Fund
  • Print medication instruction stickers

Procure the Pill Box

The Smart Pill Box is manufactured by Wisepill in South Africa. Procurement can be done through the Global Drug Facility. When ordered through this platform the Smart Pill Boxes are delivered to the country ready for use.

The Global Drug Facility medicines catalogue, which includes the smart pill box can be accessed here, and the technical information note developed by GDF can be accessed here.

Medication Instructions

Medication and adherence instructions for the patient need to be stuck to the inside of the pill box. This can be done simultaneously with the ordering of the Smart Pill Boxes if the treatment regimen is known at this point.

The printing of medication instruction labels can be procured through a local printing facility.
